### How Zero-Send Verification Protocol Functions
A common question among marketing operations teams and developers is: *How can HyperVerifier guarantee a mailbox exists without an email actually arriving in the user's inbox?*
The answer lies in the fundamental design of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (RFC 5321).
#### Step-by-Step Socket Lifecycle
1. **DNS & MX Resolution**: The verifier issues a DNS query to find the mail exchange records prioritized by lowest distance metric.
2. **TCP Socket Establishment**: A socket opens on port 25 or 587 to the target mail server.
3. **Banner Reception**: The receiving server announces itself with a 220 greeting banner.
4. **HELO/EHLO Negotiation**: The verification engine identifies its hostname and requests extended capabilities (TLS, SIZE, PIPELINING).
5. **MAIL FROM Declaration**: The sender identity is declared (e.g., `MAIL FROM:<check@verify.hyperverifier.com>`).
6. **RCPT TO Verification**: The crucial step. We transmit `RCPT TO:<target@destination.com>`. The server evaluates its internal user database and responds:
- `250 OK`: Recipient confirmed. Mailbox exists and is ready for delivery.
- `550 5.1.1 Recipient unknown`: Hard bounce. Mailbox does not exist.
- `451 / 452`: Temporary greylisting or rate limit. Retry queued.
7. **Graceful Termination (RSET / QUIT)**: Immediately after recording the 250 or 550 response, our client sends `RSET` or `QUIT`. The connection drops, and no message body (`DATA`) is ever sent!
#### Defeating False Positives and Greylisting
Modern enterprise mail solutions (such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Mimecast) employ sophisticated anti-abuse filters. Our distributed proxy pools simulate legitimate message transfer agents, preventing rate drops while respecting receiving server resources.
